I have been super blessed in the past week. I meant to post about my birthday a while ago, but I just have to tell y’all about my friends and family. They. Are. The. Best. I know you may think, “Everyone thinks their friends and family are the best, what makes your’s soo special??” Well, let me just tell you about my birthday weekend. I wish I had taken more pictures than I did! But, here’s a picture of me and one of my favorites, at my favorite coffee shop in Athens!
I had the chance to take some time off…5 days!!!! And flew south away from the wintry weather here in Maryland to sunny and 65 in Georgia! And boy, did my heart and soul need some of that sunshine and love from my friends and family! Have I mentioned how great they are? OK…just checking!
On Saturday, the 19th, they planned a scavenger hunt all around Athens for me. No one has ever done something for me, ever! It was amazing because not only did I get to see all my favorites, but I got to eat and drink coffee and have yogurt and cake and get my nails done all at my favorite places! Each place I would go and meet the mystery person and they would have a clue for me to go to the next place to meet the next group of people! It was awesome! And then, that evening, everyone came over for a fun birthday party! I really have the best friends.
A few of the places where I met my favorites:
2 Story Coffeehouse—best cup of coffee or tea in Athens…hands down! Photo pictured above of me and Jenny at 2 Story! Such a fun surprise to walk in and see Jenny!!
Last Resort Grill—great food, and Cecilia’s cake! Yes, please!! Brad and Sally and I enjoyed some amazing lunch and some even better cake! I just love them!
and Yoforia yogurt! Yum! Lee and Evan, then Holly and Ciera met me here…so blessed to have seen these guys…
I got to spend great quality time with my friends and still had time left in the weekend for family and more yummy food with them! I was so blessed to have time to be with everyone. And to top it all off, I left sunny and 70 on Tuesday to enter the frozen tundra that was Maryland with 6 inches of snow on the ground….my body went into a bit of a shock, to say the least.
In order to warm up the past few days, I have made my homemade chai tea latte, and have had several people ask me for the recipe! So, here ya go! I usually make it just for me, but I am sure you can double it! Or triple it!
Vanilla Chai Tea Latte (April style)
1 chai tea bag (I like Tazo the best, but go with whatever you like!)
1/3 cup boiling water (I make my tea real concentrated and let it steep for a while)
1 cup milk (whatever kind you’d like!)
2 drops vanilla extract (I know, real sophisticated, but I just drop it in!)
a little heavy whipping cream (optional) (don’t judge me)
2 teaspoons of sugar (again, this is how I roll, but you can do whatever)
I get the water boiling, and I add the vanilla, cream, and sugar to the milk and put the milk in the microwave to warm it up for 2 minutes, or until hot. Stir. Once water is finished boiling, add tea bag, let steep for 3-4 minutes so it’s nice and strong. Then take out bag and add milk! Stir and enjoy!
