Streams in the Desert is perfect for helping you when you are feeling spiritually dry and when you need to draw closer to God. It is not just L.B. Cowman’s writings though, it comprises daily reading taken from the Bible, hymns, poems and the writings of many Christians. And it puts me on my face almost every day. Seriously.
Today's reading goes a little like this: God goes before you and leads you through every step (paraphrased) and then she says,
"This is the blessed life--no anxious to see far down the road nor overly concerned
about the next step, not eager to choose the path nor weighted down
with the heavy responsibilities of the future, but quietly following
The Shepherd."
And I was totally good with all of that...and then it came to the last line...and I was on my face again...seriously, L. B. Cowman, amazing missionary woman, do you know what I am going through right now?!? I mean, you were a missionary to China and Japan for 17 years at the turn of the century...I know she went THROUGH it...and why am I still surprised that God uses people from 1901 to minister to my heart in 2011. Why does this shock me every time??
So, continuing with my 2011 goals....to know the Shepherd and to follow Him...quietly...that's the hard part. Cause if y'all know me at all, you know I like to chat...and talk...but I am praying through this...not being weighted down with responsibilities and quietly following Him...and not being too eager for the next step.
Let's hold each other accountable for this...seriously...let's help each other out...so that we fully LIVE in the present, and live lives that are abundant and full...what makes it hard for you to do this every day?

that entry totally got me today too! He is in my tomorrow! wow!
Interesting -- I am reading Calm my anxious heart by Linda Dillow and it runs along the same theme -- I'm getting it from all sides! I highly reccommend her book. She was a m to Central and Eastern Europe.
