Adults shape kids' lives

I am in Children's Ministry...and I am also a Compassion sponsor...and I am also a Compassion blogger.  I love the mission of Compassion and all that they do for children all around the world to not only be taken care of physically, but also spiritually.  I had the honor of working on a Compassion site in Tanzania in 2007 and I got to see how Compassion was changing lives of children.

This is not one of my finest photogenic moments, but the two little girls in this picture are sponsored by Compassion in Morogoro, Tanzania--notice their cute little dresses they wear!

So, when they ask me to write about things...I often choose to, because I believe in what they are doing for the world...and for Jesus Christ and His message being proclaimed to the ends of the earth!!

I want to write about how adults shape the lives of children.  It is definitely part of what I do on a daily basis, and something I am passionate about!  I believe in mentoring children, discipling children, coaching their parents, and being an advocate for them!

When I was growing up, I was given a sponsor at my church, sort of like an adoptive grandparent.  Her name is Mrs. Berry and she shaped my life in so many ways.  She was always present, made time for me, got to know what I liked, and did special things for me.  I think the greatest memory that I have with her was when I was confirmed in the church, and she had been planning for weeks to have a Confirmation party, just for me!  I was so honored and so thankful for that moment and for my family to be there.  I remember her telling me,  "I am proud of you today, for making the choice to be a part of the church." And I am so thankful for her, for those words, and especially now that I work in the church and in full time ministry!  She has been a part of our family since I was about 7 or 8 years old and she always will be!

So, that is my story.  What is your story about a time when an adults words or actions shaped you for the better?  I would love to hear it!!
